A New Setting of Kabbalat Shabbat

Traditional Liturgy as You've Never Heard It

  • Friday 10:40PM–11:55PM Safari Back Space

Arts and Performance, Ritual and Prayer

Avi presents new settings of texts from Kabbalat Shabbat, painted with elements of world music, contemporary classical music and jazz. Hear traditional texts from a new perspective, excerpted, given new musical treatment. Originally composed for quartet, Avi will give a solo concert featuring his singing and guitar playing. After the performance we will have a talk back- Is this a performance piece, or liturgical music? Does it belong in shul (synagogue) or on stage? Come listen and share your thoughts! **Please note, this session will use musical instruments.
