Yehuda Emanuel

Yehuda Emanuel was born into a Spanish family in Jerusalem. After serving in the army and working in the Department of Engineering in Holon, he became involved in Israeli folk dancing. Since then, Yehuda has taught Israeli dancing and traveled to Russia with Yitzhak Rabin. He also sings and performs Ladino music and has his own CD incorporating his Israeli folk and Ladino musical interests and talents.

If you already know the moves or if you have never given it a try, come check out this energetic session and be ready to dance!

Sephardic Musical Journey

Ladino and Israeli Songs

  • Saturday 9:00AM–10:15AM Congressional Room 2

Join this 7th generation Jerusalemite in a fantastic musical journey through our rich Sephardic heritage. Yehuda will perform (and teach a few) Israeli and Ladino songs sung by his ancestors. Song books (in Hebrew and transliterated to English) will be provided to encourage audience participation. Ladino (Judeo-Spanish), its origins in 15th century Castillian Spanish with Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, Turkish linguistic influences, was spoken throughout Sephardic communities in North Africa and Europe. **Please note, this session will use electricity (recorded music).

Shabbat is over and it's time to start the week Limmud-style. Join Israeli Dance instructor, Yehuda Emanuel in Israeli dancing directly following the Havdalah service. All ages are welcome to join in this fun and energetic session!
