Hip Spirituality: Jewish Waves Radio Live!

Happening sounds of Jewish music

  • Thursday 9:40PM–10:55PM Empire Room 1

Arts and Performance, Global History and Culture

As prolific as the late, great composer R. Shlomo Carlebach was, he didn’t write all the Jewish music. Neither did Debbie Friedman or Craig Taubman. There’s a flourishing world of contemporary Jewish music out there—stop in for a sampling of some of the best of the newest with Jewish Waves radio host Marge Eiseman. Broadcasting out of Milwaukee, WI, Jewish Waves is streaming on the web www.am920woky.com on Sunday nights at 10 CDT.

Comfort Shawls

Embracing the Cycle of Love and Loss

  • Friday 8:35AM–9:50AM Coffee Shop

Arts and Performance, Ritual and Prayer

Make instant community when we come together to share our stories of love and loss, and create powerful “comfort shawls” of beautiful intentions made of fabric. In a guided conversation and hands-on artistic process, you will learn a usable technique to bring back to your own friends and family.

Family Service with Music and Song

Welcoming Shabbat

  • Friday 4:50PM–6:15PM Golden Gate Auditorium

A lovely, participatory Kabbalat Shabbat service, full of music and blessings and sweet energy of community. Led by Marge Eiseman, with her son, Jona Muchin, accompanying on guitar. Geared to families and children, but of course, all are welcome. ** This session will use musical instruments

The Service of My Dreams

Playing with the music and meaning of Shabbat Beshalach

  • Saturday 9:00AM–11:15AM Stardust

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, and so do we! Join us for Shabbat like you’ve never experienced it before. We believe a good Shabbat service should welcome you in as an individual, give you a chance to be part of a group, and help you connect to the Divine and others in a deep way. With creative interplay of music, stories, movement, and environment, we will lead an exploration of Parshat Beshalach, “the dance party” of the moment of liberation! **Please note, this session will have mixed gender seating and musical instruments.

Death, Drugs, and Violence

Jewish Responses

  • Sunday 2:55PM–4:10PM Empire Room 1

As a people with a history of strife and loss, Jews are used to talking about violence and loss in global or historical terms. But what about individual struggle? How do we deal with issues of drug abuse, homelessness and violence in our communities? Is there such a thing as a “Jewish response?”
